ORANGE COUNTY XC CHAMPIONSHIPS: 0
The Sunny Hills Lancers competed at the Orange County Championships that took place at Oak Canyon Park.
Boys Freshmen kicked off the races with a 13th place finish out of 15 teams and was led by David and Sergio Perez leading the boys. David finished 73rd with a time of 19:23.4 and Sergio finished 74th with a time of 19:24.2. Close behind was Ishan Patel who finished 76th with a time of 19:26.1.
Girls Varsity kicked off the Lady Lancers and finished 10th out of 14 teams. Esther Fee led the girls with a time of 18:45.2, having a new personal best for the course by 16 seconds, and finished 6th. Close behind Esther was Stephanie Gonzalez who finished 38th with a time of 20:03.7.
Boys Varsity placed 14th out of 19 teams and was led by Zachary Gomez. Zachary had a 1 minute and 8 second personal best for the course with a time of 15:37.9, finished 4th. Close behind Zachary was Emiliano Zavala who had a 53 second personal best for the course with a time of 16:35.5, finished 49th.
Boys Sophomores placed 9th out of 11 teams and was led by Nathaniel Valenzuela. Close behind was Justin Kim who finished 46th with a time of 18:43.4 and Ryan Kim who finished 56th with a time of 19:00.7. Ryan had a 1 minute and 52 second personal best for the course!
Girls JV closed the girls’ races with a 9th place finish out of 11 teams and was led by Julissa Herrera. Julissa finished 25th with a time of 21:50.6. Close behind was Abby Hahm who finished 53rd with a time of 23:59.2.
To close the race was Boys JV who finished 13th out of 14 teams and was led by Ryan West. Ryan finished 52nd with a time of 18:38.1. Close behind Ryan was Kai Gonzales who finished 104th with a time of 20:32.3.
Out of 502 Sophomores, Zachary Gomez finished 7th, thus earning him an All County Award. All County Awards are given out to the top 7 athletes of each grade level who had the best time overall out of 2 days of racing.
The Lancers will next compete on October 26 at the Riverside Invitational at the Riverside City XC Course, home of CIF-SS Finals.
